Michael I'm sure will respond for himself, but I had to respond also. IMO 65 years ago, conservatism did mean support for the status quo, when the initial movements toward a welfare state were taking place. Now that it has become entrenched, I believe conservatism means a movement back to smaller govt. and more individual freedom, including enterprise. Many proposals in this regard are now "innovative".
