Compaq admits to SAP problems, calls conference
System was supposed to improve Compaq's often tardy record for product delivery

By Andrea Malcolm - AUCKLAND

Customers of Compaq New Zealand should receive letters from the computer company this week, explaining how its new SAP implementation is causing delays in delivery.

After denying the existence of any problems for the last three weeks, Compaq will hold a press conference next week on the new SAP enterprise resource planning system and its effect on supply chain.

The system which went live at the end of September was supposed to improve Compaq's often tardy record for product delivery.

However three resellers, including one of the largest in the country, have told Computerworld of their frustration with the new system.

Computerworld has been told of one reseller that was left in the lurch, waiting weeks for half a dozen servers and notebooks.

Another reseller says customers have had to endure delays of six weeks and more.

A third says some people are saying "enough" and changing brands due to constant lack of performance on delivery over the years.
