Stitch, this poster gives a link to a video where some drive experts
discuss "click of death" an affliction of a small percentage of ZIP
disks. The interesting thing is they give away monitoring software
that supposedly warns you before trouble occurs.

My last employer had a method to monitor amplitude around a track
periodically. Significant changes meant there might have been
head/disk contact. In the case of ZIP monitoring software
amplitude cannot be measured, because a PC is incapable of it.
That leaves only soft error rate monitoring. Do you have any
knowledge of this? I'm just curious.
