Soap box = on Now I've heard everything! I know this is a quote, and my comments are directed at whoever said this: "Linux represents a best-of-breed Unix". This is pure fantasy. Linux does have its place, and it is expanding. However, it is by no stretch of the imagination a "best of breed unix". The main appeal is that its free and source code is available. Linux is essentially a collection of patches and hacks. I wouldn't bet my business on it! Clearly, Linux just does not stack up to AIX, HPUX, Solaris, or many of the second tier Unix platforms, including IRIX. Maybe someone more familiar with IRIX (and perhaps Linux) can enlighten the thread as to how/why Linux is a threat to IRIX. Soap box = off -John Dodson
