I would guess that they're primarily going after the existing base of users with a nice MO-backward-compatible high-capacity upgrade. With HiFD, Sony appears to be shooting for the whole enchilada, the next floppy replacement. It's interesting to me however, that they're going to come out with an external version first, while the internal version is scheduled for Q199. Unless I owned an iMac, why would I care about the HiFD's main selling feature: "backward-floppy-compatibility" when selecting an external drive? Regards - Dale
