Here's more from the press release I copied from the company's website: (Add this to the end of what Nic posted.) Users can save connect time and money by sending voice messages in compressed format to any other computer with a Flashback VoiceLink. Voice messages can be downloaded directly onto the computer hard drive from the removable SoundClip cartridges used by NCI's Flashback digital voice recorder.
At CES, NCI is introducing the Flashback VoiceLink Pro, a professional
version that features a conference microphone and automatic gain control. Additional software features include cut and paste and hot keys that support transcription functions.
The second Innovations '97 winner is the Personal Voice Processor (PVP-2000), the first-ever, digital, hand-held voice recorder that uses removable CompactFlash media to input highly-compressed sound files into a computer without any additional hardware. The PVP-2000 will feature virtually unlimited recording time because flash memory cartridges (with a capacity of up to 10 hours each) can be removed and new ones inserted. A menu-driven LCD display will make the unit very easy to use. The PVP-2000 is designed to replace all analog mechanical recorders.
Users can interface the PVP-2000 to their computers in two ways. The CompactFlash can be inserted into the PCMCIA bay of a notebook computer using a standard adapter. For desktop computers, a docking station that also serves as a battery recharger features a standard interface to any Intel-based computer. NCI will also provide a software package so users can send compressed digital voice files via Internet E-mail. NCI estimates the unit will ship in the middle of Calendar '97.
Both the Flashback VoiceLink and the PVP-2000 will be on display at the NCI booth #11301 in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The CES Innovations awards is the most recognized awards program in the consumer electronics industry, endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America and sponsored and produced by the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association (CEMA) a sector of the Electronics Industries Association (EIA).
