Banco, this was in my July newsletter about Platinum, may be of interest
On the demand side for platinum there is a new use that could spark considerable demand. National Fuelsaver Corp. of Boston, a private company has developed a knew and unique device called the Platinum Gasaver that is bound to take off and cause significant platinum demand.
They have developed a device that connects to any gasoline engine and is guaranteed to save 22% in fuel costs. In fact government tests showed the device saved on average 28.3% on a fleet of 15 vehicles. After 5 years of study the government concluded: "Independent testing shows greater fuel savings with Gasaver than the 22% claimed by the developer".
Until now, platinum is used in catalytic converters to burn off fuel and pollutants further to meet EPA pollution standards. This device injects microscopic quantities of platinum into the air-fuel mixture and causes the normally unburned fuel, to burn in the engine rather in the catalytic converter. This increases the fuel burned in the engine from around 68% to 90%.
The device is guaranteed by the company and does not void any warranties. The Gasaver has received patents for raising gasoline octane, and has been approved for reducing emissions to acceptable levels. The device works by slowly releasing a liquid platinum mix into the engine. The device is simple to install, that practically anyone can do and will last for 50,000 kilometers before it needs a refill kit.
Joel Robinson, the developer, commented, "We have already sold over 300,000 Gasavers. To our surprise, as many people buy the Gasaver because it extends engine life (by cleaning out the abrasive carbon deposits) as buy it to increase mileage". The device currently sells for US$103 or Cdn$159, with platinum making up about 90% of this cost.
