Daniel - Statistics are nice, safe, distant ways to view the problem of sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS.

In just one case that has personally affected our family, a girl who was a close friend of my youngest daughter, contracted HIV sexually from a boy who was, unbeknownst to her, an IV drug user. He is still alive but is in very poor health. Unknowingly, that girl infected another young man in a very short-term relationship. Not long after that, she met a man and in a few months, got married -- prior to knowing she had HIV. Of course, she exposed her husband. She died two years ago and he died this summer. They did not have any children.

There are more stories I won't bore anyone else with -- suffice it to say I'm sick of going to hospitals and seeing little groups of kids and young men and women huddle in waiting rooms while their friends are dying.

So much for sexual "enlightenment."

Mr. K.
