Here's another one.

Sacchromyces cerevisiae is a yeast that is found in kefir. When milk is fermented with S. cerevisiae and L. helveticus, they produce certain functional peptides.

Peptides are short chains of amino acids, which are snipped out of dietary protein by the action of the enzymes of the digestive system, but also those of the lactic ferments. In other words the micro organisms produce these peptides when their digestive enzymes break down the larger molecules of protein found in milk. Peptides are small enough to be absorbed thru the intestinal wall and get into the blood stream where some can give health benefits both in the digestive tract and throughout the body.

Anyway back to the milk fermented with S. cerevisiae and L. helveticus. The peptides from this milk have been found to make it to the aorta.

In studies, a blood pressure lowering effect has been observed. A single dose of milk fermented by L. helveticus and S. cerevisiae, ingested by hypertensive Rats at a dose of 5 mL/kg, led to a reduction in the systolic blood pressure, whereas it had no effect on normal Rats.
In Man, this same fermented milk was administered to hypertensive subjects at a dose of 95 mL/d for 8 weeks, and gave the same results: a significant reduction of the systolic pressure, compared to the control group, which received acidified milk as a placebo.

So here we have another possible benefit from probiotics. Lowering blood pressure only in people who have hypertension. And one of them is found in kefir.
