Ausdauer, in its raw form memory is exceedingly small. Since the camera provides protection, you could surface mount the chips and use less space than that required for the CF slot. As flash moves to smaller line widths, power consumption and speed issues will disappear. It's only a matter of time.

As to the vacationer needing extra digital film, Kodak dealers around the world will soon offer a service to download images and deliver a CD-ROM while you wait. People need this service to provide backup of CF cards so that they may be reused. The same service works just as well using the autofocus LED in a camera to upload images.

IMHO, if things don't proceed as I have described it will only be because someone comes along with a still better way to obsolete CF.
