Jed, I do not know the design of the rod control system used at all US nuclear plants but I do know the Westinghouse design. What this article has stated about rod movement is simply NOT TRUE! Rods are normally operated under manual control. But, even under auto control, this is an old solid state system comprised of Motorola HTL circuits. homer
