Re: "And the mantra continues...Until the music stops." Hi DH, Glad to hear from you. The possibility of world-wide recession seems to be shrinking, imho. Market seems to me to agree, so far at least. But anything is possible. There is no certainty available, ever. All opportunity carries risk.
Oil Sector recovery could take years? Well, Maybe; Maybe not. I think not, but if I'm wrong I'll just wait it out. I'm relatively young (much younger than marc chatman) and don't need the money anytime soon. There is the possibility that sector stocks will go lower, but what are the chances that the world will stop using oil? Eventually, these stocks are going to prosper. Next week? next month? next year? the year after? Can't Know when, but can be pretty confident it will happen.
I think we, as independent investors, have a Great Advantage over the fund managers in that we don't have to worry about short-term results unless we choose to. Like Buffet buying all that silver a while back. Is he worrying that the price of silver is down in the day or quarter? I doubt it. He believes that in the fullness of time that investment will bear fruit. I hope none of us, long or short, are counting on next week's stock profits to make the mortgage payment, because in the short term uncertainty looms large.
I'm long here because my considered opinion is that the upward potential exceeds the downward risk. I think that is true for the short-term and long-term, but my long-term strategy takes into account the possibility that stock prices may go lower.
We'll see how it goes.
regards,
diana
