I'm just curious, John. What dictionary are you using? Mine says nothing about "uncalculated", only that altruism is concern for the well-being of others rather than self. The opposite of egotistical. The root is probably the Latin "alter" meaning other. I would think that I could make a calculated decision to do something that places others' needs before my own. Why uncalculated?
