Paul,

However, the computer is no substitute for intelligence and basic skills.

Some facts about the discovery of Pluto at the Lowell Observatory.

This 24-inch refracting telescope was purchased by Percival Lowell for $20,000 in 1896. The 32-foot long telescope is housed in its original dome. The dome is made entirely of native ponderosa pine and was built in ten days by ten men - in a time without power tools!

Percival Lowell spent about 10 years doing hand calculations of the predicted position of "Planet X". On a PC he could have done those same calculations in less than one second.

You can get stuff done without power tools and computers, but it sure is a lot faster with them. After all, you've got the most expensive collection of power tools in the world. ;^))

Just think how much fun the bomb designers at Los Alamos must be having with their supercomputer and Infinite Reality graphics. They haven't been able to blow up a real bomb in about 5 years ;^((

Imagine what Einstein could do on that supercomputer, if SGI added non-Euclidian geometry perspective to OpenGL.
