Engineer - It would be even more relevant to compare selling price to the CARRIER. this is the only one that matters. the carier can add any amount of subsidy they want on any given day for any reason.

I agree. Unfortunately this is something that I do not have access to - if you do, feel free to post it<g>. Thus my use of list price. I assume that the list price for a Startac and a Q both have approximately the same markup and thus any price differential in list price is also a price differential in manufacturer prices.

As for the point that an analog Startac would inherently cost less than a CDMA, again I agree. Thus my assumption that a CDMA Startac will cost at least as much as the cheapest non-CDMA Startac. I'd love to find the list price for a CDMA startac, but so far it hasn't shown up at any retail outlets that I can find.

Clark

PS Many people seem to assume that the only prices available are the subsidized prices. This is not true. There are stores that sell unsubsidized phones - i.e. with no contracts. I have no idea who buys them, or why, but they do exist and again the prices I quoted were from such vendors (I'd post them here but the net is really bogged down so I can't get back to the sites).
