JIT inventory and direct model manufacturing are different than CPQ's traditional methods. Efficiency (margins) will be compromised when the company 1) tries to operate with two different inventory/manufacturing models, and 2) tries to operate with two different distribution models. The 100% direct model will always be more efficient than the indirect/direct models.

Compaq will have to sell-out their indirect distributors, in favor of what would be a rapidly expanding direct model. How well do you think that'll go over? In any event, I'd be shorting CompUSA.

Regards,

LoD
