hi SoMo,
looking forward to your report! (would also be interested in ecilf info)
besides any and all silicon news, it would be very interesting to know whether orctf is doing any joint demos with lucent (or maybe intc) if either/both are there.. and any g.lite stuff.. timeframes etc (maybe what intc's role is in the gte oregon trials?)
after thinking (and researching) a little more about the last press release regarding lu's marketing alliance with orctf... think i missed the obvious first time thru..
first, not surprisingly, the europe, middle east, and africa region covered is not exactly arbitrary... it comes from lu.. and is one of three worldwide lu divisions.. so a crude way of looking at this, is that lu has an agreement in place now to market orctf to approximately one third of their customers worldwide... lucent.com:80/what/international/index.html
and would think this is particularly significant right now in europe.. where there are a batch of tenders pending... lu may very well be bidding on these with orctf...
and specifically think it opens up a an interesting new angle on bt... up to now have been thinking that orctf might have a shot at bt thru fujitsu.. and would not be particularly surprised if indeed this is how it plays out and... so far there has been no sign of lu's involvement in bt's adsl plans, but the ireland lu announcement got me thinking...
overall lu is much stronger in the uk than fujitsu: lu has 2000 employees in uk/ireland alone... lucent.com:80/what/international/europe/unitedkingdom.html
while ftel only has something like 1000 employees throughout all its european operations- Birmingham, UK (Headquarters); Oslo, Norway; Ballerup, Denmark; Diegen, Belgium; Lisboa, Portugal; Madrid, Spain... fujitsu.co.jp ftel.co.uk
"Lucent Technologies in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) has around 14,000* employees across 98 locations in 26 countries. Bell Labs research and development organizations are located in nine countries in the region, focusing on key technologies for Lucent customers. * Note: Figure includes joint ventures employees"
and nine countries are singled out as especially important: Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Spain, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom lucent.com:80/what/international/europe.html
backing into this ... of these particularly strong lu countries, if memory serves, there are (or soon will be) adsl tenders out in at least three: netherlands, france, and uk (bt).. spain (supergekko?)
and it was reported that lu bid on dt with orctf...
not sure exactly where lu/orctf is leading particularly in the context of fujitsu/orctf, but it is interesting..
