Back from the westcoast.....
Let me share an insight that is becoming more and more apparent to me the more I work the circuit among companies, individuals, technologists, etc.
CHECKMATE!!
Every corporation throughout the world has been checkmated by the Internet.....
I don't care how smart you are, where you work, how great your team is, how big your company is, etc. NOTHING YOU DID PRIOR TO INTERNET WAVE 2 MATTERS.......
EVERYTHING YOU DO NOW DURING INTERNET WAVE 2 MATTERS MORE FOR ITS LIFE OR DEATH, PERIOD.
ALL COMPANIES HAVE TO OPEN UP TO THE POWER OF THE PUBLIC INTERNET - NOW, NOT LATER.
FORGET ABOUT VPNS, EXTRANETS, INTRANETS......
We are all going to ONE network, period.
I was in downtown LA yesterday at the local equities exchange looking out over the landscape of big buildings downtown while talking on my Nextel phone to my technology funding partners who still do not get the magnitude of this message.
"It's checkmate time, Norman. You can strategize all you want about how you have the greatest relationships for this and that, but if you aren't on the street humping, bumping and dealing in ways that are immediately reflected and mirrored on to the internet NOW...then a competitor who DOES these things better than you by going "high" will out network you."
NETWORKING is the new paradigm....... Network the network. Get OUT THERE. If you sit behind a desk anymore you are going to be history. Offices will become obsolete. I'd hate to own real estate in these major cities. Sell, sell, sell. Go to cash. Reinvest in IP networking companies. Look at the eBay. Exciting, power.... This is just the tip of the iceberg..... Internet Wave 2 is exploding.
WARNING!! WARNING!! Corporate CEOs everywhere. Get off the golfcourse. Get on the internet. Get humble. Put your nose deep into this stuff. Smell and feel the raw, powerful energy behind Wave 2. Your company is being unbundled as you live, eat, breath and walk. You don't know how, what, where, why, when. Just know that is happening man.......
Novell's technology is at the fountainhead of this new paradigm shift of power toward server-based applications, mega directories, cross-platform connectivity in a world that will increasingly have to sychronize with every other moving part. If you don't open up, extend and synchronize your company will be history.
Over the next 2-5 years we will witness a MASSIVE unbundling of industry leadership toward these new "below radar" revolutionary upstarts who have the balls, guts and vision to declare CHECKMATE!!!!
