Shmar: Float is the number of shares available for public trade. If you click on the "profile" link on quote.yahoo.com for most isses, int the bottome left you will see "Shares Outstanding" and "FLoat". The outstanding number is the number of total shares including publicly held and by the company (officials, officers, etc). The Float is what is available for public trading. The lower the number, the more the stock will move on larger volume...in general. Straight supply and demand model. If a lot of people want the stock and there is only a 3.0 Million Float, it will rise because there will be less sellers than if there was a 300 Million float, or greater. Check some of your favorite companies and familiarize yourself with the numbers. This also, to a degree, affects how often a stock will split. Hope this helps. TJ
