Microsoft runs their company as best befits Microsoft.

Intel runs Intel as best befits Intel.

Some times they have common goals and objectives and they cooperate and some times they have conflicting goals and objectives and they fight.

That's life.

Accept it.

As regards Microsoft's action on Intel's NSP - I have a feeling that Microsoft was right on that count. The NSP was directed at the older Win 3.1 which was dying at the time and it used code that was in the OS Kernel - and Microsoft considered that "sacred ground".

The net result was that Intel was forced to improve the x86 architecture with MMX (first) and Katmai (second) which got them off their butts - ending up in improved processors. If Microsoft hadn't forced Intel into doing some x86 modifications, CPUs would not have progressed as well as they have - from Intel, at least.

On the flip side, Intel is doing a whole lot more with 64 bit Merced NT - with Microsoft's blessing.

Intel is also pushing Unix, Solaris and Linux for x86 and Merced applications. Do you think they asked Microsoft's permission to do that?
