Remember the good old days when a person's word meant something?

You mean those good old days when African-Americans fell victim to lynch mobs and were denied the right to vote? Or those good old days when women had to risk their lives to get abortions from unscrupulous butchers? Or do you mean those good old days when Joe McCarthy trampled the constitution to ruin the careers of those who held ideologically unpopular views? Or those good old days when we illegally carpet-bombed Southeast Asia? Or those good old days way back when the state of Iowa outlawed the speaking of German in public? Yes those good old days were really when Americans abided by the rule of law and the truth.

Your good old days were a nightmare for many people. I'll take today's America--with all its mutl-colored cast of characters, its contradictions, its extremes, its complexities, its horrors, and its joys--in a heartbeat over your good old days.
