Understand your concern, but it still goes back to how to keep employees in a boom to bust business incentivized. A little dilution is worth a lot if you keep employee retention/morale high - in the face of cutbacks and layoffs - before a boom starts. It is all a matter of perspective. Whether it be repricing or granting more options - because the older vesting options are worthless ? - the key is company performance. This is what drives me as an a long term investor. If hi-tech industries were not so volatile, so much like "job today unemployed tommorrow," I think would agree with you more.
