Interlink Electronics Licenses Communication Intelligence Corporation's Jot Handwriting Recognition System to Bundle With the FreedomWriter PRO

November 12, 1998 9:19 AM
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 1998-- Communication Intelligence Corporation (CIC)(Nasdaq:CICI) announced today that Interlink Electronics (Nasdaq:LINK) has entered into a licensing agreement with CIC to bundle the Jot(tm) Handwriting Recognition System on Interlink's new FreedomWriter PRO(tm) which incorporates Interlink's VersaPad input pad.

Jot is a handwriting recognition system that was specifically designed to meet the demands of input on small form factor devices. Jot offers real time handwriting recognition in a compact program size and allows the user to input text by using natural printed characters. The Jot recognition system is compatible with Windows 95, 98, NT and CE and was recently introduced for the Palm operating system.

Other OEM licensees of Jot include Microsoft for the Palm-size PC operating system and Nortel for its cellular smart phone offering.

Bill Yates, senior VP of Marketing and Sales for Interlink Electronics commented, "Interlink Electronics FreedomWriter Pro is the first cordless PC input device of its kind designed to offer both touchpad pointing and direct pen input of text characters, annotations, and signatures.

"We selected CIC's JOT recognition software to include with FreedomWriter because it is a highly intuitive, easy-to-use application for converting hand-written characters to text. As we continue to develop our line of pen input products, we envision continued collaboration with quality software developers such as CIC to produce the best possible solutions for business, home and industry."

Mike Sullivan, VP of OEM Sales at CIC commented, "The combination of CIC's Jot handwriting recognition with Interlink's new FreedomWriter Pro will enable wireless interactive Internet applications, net meetings, presentations, and group computing sessions.

"We believe Interlink's unique touchpad technology coupled with CIC's pen input offerings including multi-lingual handwriting recognition, signature and notetaking applications are ideally suited for mobile communication and collaboration applications. CIC is excited about the potential of this new product and looks forward to working with Interlink on future input products for these markets."
