Tom I'm not an expert in the field, but I have seem a demo of the PAL phone. The phone and screen are slightly larger than the qcp800/1900. The phone can query specific net sites and fetch email. I'm not sure how the reply to email, but I think there are 2 ways. One is with a message precanned in the phone and unleashed with a code number, the other is to use a 2 digit letter equivalent system much like you punch in a ticker symbol on the phone to get a quote.
