Mine is just one voice, but I'd like to add it.
This thread has had a history of respectful and mature discussion, including spirited disagreement, while some of the other dirt threads were not so respectful or mature. IMO this has begun to deteriorate into a kind of playground catcalling with a poverty of substance characterizing a significant number of posts. I'm purposely not singling anyone out alone in order to follow my own prescription. But I think everyone understands that several recent posts have that flavor of what I'm suggesting we try to avoid. Anyone can do what they want within Jill's guidelines, but IMO we ought agree amongst ourselves for a standard that's yet a little higher, in other words, avoid ad hominem attacks. Set your gunsights on the ideas and respectfully disagree. Please do not attack the bearer of the idea or position. It only diminishes your own credibility, hurts the discussion and the discussion group, and may by association even help fuel the forces who want to see the dirts fail. Once again, I am not trying to tell anyone how to behave. I am expressing my opinion. This thread will be as exemplary or objectionable as we decide collectively that it should be. There will always be fools and foolish chat wherever you are, but please remember that whenever you engage (not ignore) them, you are dignifying their words and encouraging more of the same. Resist it if you can. Thanks...SW
