Despite your fine advice, I persisted in my argument that stocks are not primarily about specialist manipulation.

I was a little rushed and didn't set the context fully.

I meant my example to be the limiting case. In other words, ideally a specialist would be flat all the time and enjoy the bid ask spread. What a business that would be. I realize that is a fantasy. There is inventory to carry. Risk to be laid off at a cost in the options market. Market risk. Etc.

But did my post make sense to you as a limiting case?
