Can you name me a real brokerage that allows one to short stocks without tying up buying power? This would really have helped me back in august. With Datek and I assume with all other brokerages short selling ties up buying power equally as buying long does. The broker keeps the proceeds of the short sale for its own use and ties up buying power on top of it.

Datek goes even further with EntreMed. In may they declared EntreMed to be non marginable. Later they invented a new category of a non shortable stock where Entremed is still a member.
