I think we just have a simple disconnect here. We can most likely agree that the wealth of information "owned" by SEBL would be the seed data providing an eCommerce site with content. The integration with the back end system(s) would provide the required inventory, billing, shipping, etc..., functions required. The reason I feel it would be realtively straight forward is that there is no requirement for SEBL to interact with the back office systems directly and therefore in real time. Think of this a different way... the web server and associated internet technology are the leads while SEBL and the back office systems provide support. The internet technology leverages the stengths of each and provides its own glue between them.

I may have just stumbled into an opportunity here...
