Michael, >>>it will require a co. with vision to get us to the next generation. I don't know who that will be. But I do know that the days of rabid pc sales that allowed Intel to charge whatever they wanted are over.<<<<

Fortunately, cos. cannot wait for you to annoint or recognize the new computing generation winner. They have a $600-800B y2k software glitch to take care of in their legacy systems. All of this software and hardware that run on in legacy systems will have to be replaced - some sooner than others. Sales for Intel's Xeon chip started in the 3Q but production ramped in 4Q (ggg) and are selling 1.5 times faster than rival chips that are in computers replacing legacy systems.

As a result, even though Intel is selling many millions more pc's at a much lower price their sales into the high end Xeon market have resulted in not lowering their overall ASP. And, sales into the high end is just beginning this quarter.

But, without dragging this discussion out much longer - the point is that our opinions on Intel growth going forward differ (I won't start on Intel in the HDTV market). As for the past, using data from the last two years to show Intel growth has ended is disingenuous. Intel has grown from $0 to $26B in thirty years - and using any two year time frame to measure growth is at best not all that meaningful - at its worst it is deceitful.

Regards,

Mary
