Academically self-determination involves making choices to manage resources toward goal achievement. Even if the goal is non-involvement in something. I did not mean to imply any omnipotence in the decision making. Of course, there are all kinds of forces we don't control that effect us in our life and living. Self-determination also involves responding to forces we don't control. We do have free will. Religious as well as non-religious folk support that notion. Destiny is another issue. Self-determination in a broader sense leaves lots of room for interesting discussion.
