I got through to Tom Northenscold at PPTV late yesterday. He confirmed that the drop in share price yesterday was driven by a downgrading of the stock by Will Potter of Alex Brown. Potter was reacting to two developments:

1. Restructuring at AMP (major PPTV customer) which will result in AMP closing some facilities and reducing capital spending.

2. Another customer (cannot be identified because of a confidentiality agreement)delayed some shipments which PPTV had expected to ship in the first quarter. Tom emphasized these shipments were delayed rather than cancelled and said he expects this customer to resume taking shipments in the second quarter.

The impact of all this is that Will Potter reduced his first quarter estimate to $.03 per share from $.07 or $.08.

I asked but Tom would not comment on the estimate. He said earnings are due to be released on February 10.

At closing price yesterday (7 1/8), market cap of PPTV is around $38 million, or roughly two times cash and marketable securities.

Tom closed by saying that the business is still fundamentally sound. The company expects to introduce their next generation hardware in the second half of the fiscal year.

Any observations.
