This is known as G.Lite or DSL Lite. The splitterless ADSL technology with patents owned by Aware, Inc. (AWRE). The ITU just set the standard called G.992.2. You should checkout the Aware thread and the AWRE web site at

aware.com

They have some good information on DSL there worth your time.

Aware owns the patents for the splitterless technology, which eliminates the need for the TELCO to send someone to install splitters on the users phone line.

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is being issued by BancBoston Robertson Stephens, a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers, CRD number 41271:
BancBoston Robertson Stephens senior analyst Paul Johnson initiated coverage today of Aware (NYSE:AWRE) with a Buy rating. Aware, located in Bedford, Massachusetts, is an intellectual property company. The company's core technology relates to ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) technology. ADSL, or some variant, is believed to be the technology that will be used by traditional phone companies to deliver broadband access to their residential and small/medium business customers over traditional telephone lines.
“We believe there is an opportunity for upside surprise in revenues and earnings as the market for broadband access begins to develop and accelerate over the next few years,” said Johnson. “Aware has emerged as the leading vendor of intellectual property (IP) in the market for broadband access over traditional telephone lines. We believe Aware will have the opportunity to fully exploit the market's development.
“As one of the pioneering vendors in the ADSL category, Aware is trying to capture the first mover advantage on this emerging market as the IP vendor,” said Johnson. “Aware has established technology partnerships with Analog Devices, Lucent Microelectronic, 3COM and Siemens Semiconductor. We expect additional, similar relationships to materialize within the next few quarters.”
