Read through my past posts and you'll rarely catch me defending the liberals or Clinton. So fire away at them. Pow! Pow! Pow! Even if all you've got left is blanks. ;-)
I marvel at the seeming inability of the conservative Clinton haters here to grasp the reality of the current situation. I read through the posts and am absolutely amazed and entertained by the incongruity between reality and their words. They continue to drea--ea-eam, dream, dream, dream, dream, drea-ea-eam about Clinton getting impeached, crucified, arrested, quartered, whipped (well, he'd probably enjoy that).
Matters of fact?
Fact: For only the second time since the Civil War, a president's party gained seats in a mid-term election.
Fact: The architect of the "boost-Republicans-by-impeaching-the-president" strategy has failed so miserably as to announce his resignation.
Fact: Neither Henry Hyde nor any other sane member of Congress has talked about pursuing impeachment beyond any matter other than Lewinsky. That means just zippers and Cohibas, baby. That means no travelgate, no filegate, no campaign finance, no Vince Foster, no Black Helicopters. But you can still fantasize. As I said to the esteemed Zoltan once, if it helps you get to sleep at night, why not dream about a far-reaching impeachment inquiry into the Clinton administration?
When you wish upon a star... Makes no difference who you are...
Fact: Despite his tacky personal life and his alleged lying under oath and his alleged obstruction of justice, Clinton continues to enjoy approval ratings higher than Saint Ronald Reagan's.
Fact: The only man more reviled by the American public than Newt Gingrich is Kenneth Starr. Think about what that means to politicians driven by polls rather than conscience.
I'm not arguing against the conservatives ideological and policy positions on economic and social issues. In fact, I agree with many of their proposals. I merely ask this of the Clinton-hater wing of the conservative movement: Is your grasp on reality so inflexible that a sudden earthquake like that which changed the political topography Nov. 3 won't cause you to take another look? Reality has shifted dramatically, but your outlook on it remains the same. This is not partisan sniping, consider this friendly advice--an intervention, in the parlance of the recovery movement. :-)
Before you make your next post on this bulletin board, take a breath, take a cold, hard look at the landscape surrounding you, and absorb the reality of the current political situation. |
