Quadrant International Extends Market Leadership in PC/TV Convergence at Fall Comdex; CineMaster Product Family Enhanced With Low Cost Real Time Software DVD Encoder and HDTV/DBS Decoders Business Wire - November 11, 1998 13:57 COMDEX Fall 98
MALVERN, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1998--Quadrant International (QI), an expert provider of software and hardware digital video solutions, has been the pace-setter in the ever-changing digital video marketplace throughout 1998 through the widespread adoption of its Software CineMaster 98 DVD solutions. The proliferation of QI's growth has enabled the company to chart a new, bold course for the New Year as it further strengthens its commitment to driving PC/TV desktop convergence. At this year's Fall COMDEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, QI will offer a glimpse of things to come with the sneak preview of the CineMaster RT software encoder for real-time capture and compression of DVD quality video streams, as well as two new decoder technologies for DBS and HDTV. Through the delivery of these new all-software solutions, QI is driving down the cost to PC-OEM customers and enabling them to deliver complete digital video capability to the desktop at a fraction of the cost of hardware alternatives.
"Quadrant International has always been geared towards moving the industry along in terms of technological innovation," said Leonard Sharp, vice president of marketing for Quadrant International. "We are proud of the success we've had over the past year and look forward to continuing to deliver cost-effective digital video solutions."
A Glimpse At The Future
Whenever a cool new technology debuts in our digital world, the normal thought process is that industry giants such as Dell, Gateway, Sony and Fujitsu are taking the lead role. However, when it comes to digital video, it is a successful "David" in Quadrant International that is providing the technology that is enabling these markets to converge.
The true digital video convergence success story will center around the ability to provide equally powerful real time digital video encoding capabilities and digital broadcast to the PC. Just as consumers have proven with audio cassettes and VCRs, playback-only technologies rarely compete with recordable devices. The same will hold true for the digital video arena and QI is already looking ahead to the next generation of digital video.
In addition to PC OEMs, beneficiaries of the new offering include audio and video application developers, DVD recordable media and drive OEMs, graphics board vendors, CPU manufacturers and operating system vendors. No other solution to date can offer the same high-quality video and efficient CPU utilization to deliver comparable file sizes and data rates.
Quadrant's Strengths Are In Its Roots
So, how did a relative unknown from tiny Malvern, Pa., forge alliances with many of the world's largest PC manufacturers? And, how did QI outflank other better-known behind-the-scenes enablers in its market? For one, the QI solution is media agnostic, enabling the user to time-shift an incoming DSS, DVB or HDTV signal or record DVD content to any medium, from a hard drive to a Zip Disk, or a CD-R/W. Additionally, QI made the successful transition from hardware-based DVD enabling technology to a software approach, thus allowing PC-OEMs to integrate superior, hardware quality DVD capabilities at a much more affordable software pricepoint. In fact, the QI encoding solution that will change the digital video market in 1999 is the only such solution that can run on today's current Pentium II processors -- a boon to PC OEMs.
QI has uniquely positioned itself to be a key catalyst in the delivery of digital video solutions to the market. While the PC-OEM is faced with difficult trade-offs between price and performance, only QI can provide complete digital video solutions across the board. The company's unique modular architecture allows it to fine tune its products to meet specific customer system requirements, achieving the precise price/performance balance that OEMs need. As the first company to have supplied a PC-based DVD solution, QI has been in the forefront of the digital video standard as it has developed in the market.
