I am sorry but you syphoned the Religious or Righteousness out of the discussion. I never brought it up and only responded to your fears about what I am personally greatful for in my life.

I in no way accept your premise on the basic tension you speak of. It is a myth. Freedom and what is Right are one and the same. The alternative is grab as grab can. If that is what you call freedom, I would argue that you are self centered and irresponsible.

There is a huge agenda irresponsible people are hiding behind in this country that they like to mislabel "Tolerance," but is in truth simply irresponsibility. It means you leave me alone and I'll leave you alone and let's see who "gets" the most. The social ills of our society can ALL be traced back to this. It seems your definition of freedom is not to have any compassion, regard, respect, or responsibility related to the human condition. In that sense yes I would agree we have crystalized our differences.
