Orbit, EM, [CD ROM enabling for W98 Install]

If you are up on the Win98 boot diskette, you can probably get running (less than optimally) with the hand-entered command

MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001 /L:D

Consult your CDROM doc and substitute for driver MSCD001 if necessary and for drive letter D if appropriate. You need to have MSCDEX.EXE on your boot diskette for this to work. Other good additions to your version of the bootdisk: format.exe, edit.com, xcopy.exe, Xcopy32.exe and xcopy32.mod.

I got things running well enough for Win98 to do a more thorough job on autoexec and config.sys - they ended up (on C:) looking much like EM's. EM's approach is more thorough; mine is quicker faster and dirtier. Take your choice. Or keep mine in your back pocket for un-anticipated difficulties. <g>

I did this yesterday (will probably do it again today!) and it worked; I don't think I forgot anything, but well ... you know. <g>

Good luck!

Paul

PS [EDIT] Looks like MSCDEX is already on the Vanilla Win98 boot disk.
