So as a residential customer would YOU want AVCO's new service? Don't see too many potential buyers there... Another alternative - cable modem. Faster AND cheaper. Example: PeRKInetTM PeRKInet (Phone Return Cable Internet). PeRKInet provides high speed Internet-over-cable access at a minimum of twice the speed of ISDN (128 Kbps) at half the price (a $39.95 per month total, well below ISDN and ADSL projections). In addition, the Company offers a LAN PeRKInet at up to Ethernet speed (10Mps) for $120 to $300 per month. Both products are asymmetrical in that the downstream speed is maximized while the upstream remains at slower speeds. The technology used for PeRKInet was developed by Hybrid and in June 1996 the Company began purchasing Hybrid's Phone Return Cable Modem product line.
