Well, George, as I already said, I sort of jumped into an ongoing discussion, and may not have fully understood it. It seemed to me from the posts I read that E was pointing out the way that a belief in karma is used (excuse my paraphrasing) to keep the poor expecting nothing, and control them and maintain the third world status quo of wealth being in the hands of the very few.

So I was just saying that I saw the concept of karma in a different way, and also suggesting that it could be part of a path to enlightenment in affluent western people who were using it in balance with other aspects of the way the universe works.

So yes, karma can be seen as a total world view, which would be fairly passive, or in the way I believe Sam and I see it, as part of the philosophy that we create much of our own experience. I think you need the very basics of clean water and basic health care and enough food to eat before it can operate in that second way. Because unless you have those things, life washes over you to such an extent that creating your own experience would be a pretense.

Is that any clearer?
