Dan,
God and Jesus don't want you to 'seek their face'. They want you to walk with them as equals. People can remain unchanged quite easily, if they fall prostrate to their knees in awe of worship. Jesus did not work to free us from false masters only to install himself as King over you. He taught you otherwise.
Remember the old poem? Not scripture, but nice nonetheless. I may not remember it exactly, but it goes something like this:
Footprints in the Sand
God and a man are looking back upon the footprints of his life in the sand.
"Look, said the man, there are two sets of prints, we walked together."
"Yes", said the Lord,"I walked with you".
"But there", said the man,"there when I was down, there is only one set of prints. You left me."
"No my son, I did not foresake thee, I never left thee", said the Lord,"That is when I carried you".
People can remain unchanged if they do not know they can walk with the Lord, and think they must crawl up to him upon their knees. The Lord does not want you crawling, he wants you to stand alongside.
Peace, Darrin
P.S. Finally remembered that is where that quote was from, I think. |
