CNBC got the story correct that it was a speculative stock, they were
saying "we think this is pure speculation and we didn't even want to mention it."

To be exact, It was Bloomberg who issued a story that quoted the CEO as saying they had a new modem and they were rolling out nationwide service for $30 a month, then Reuters followed soon afterwards.

By the way. I work for Motley Fool as networking stocks analyst, and I immediately
posted a message in the networking folder there saying this was not what the press was saying it was, and that was AFTER I called the company and confirmed what they did.
They told me they do not sell a modem, that they resell GTE's ADSL, and that they are
not going nationwide. I sent AVTEL the Bloomberg story at their request because they
had not heard about it or seen it yet.

The most recent Reuters story backs up their claim that the CEO actually made misleading statements, and if so then he is the one to blame for this fiasco. In my opinion, anyone blaming Joe Kernan for this mess is probably one of the sheep who jumped on the momentum train without their brains on board.
