All fulfillment costs not included in cost of sales, including the cost of operating and staffing distribution centers and customer service, are included in marketing and sales.

Scamazon is living up to its name once again.

Those managers and floor supervisors at the order processing centers? "marketing and sales". Those warehouse employees going shelf diving to retrieve the book you ordered? "marketing and sales". Those folks putting printed address labels on boxes? "marketing and sales". Those folks putting the books retrieved from the warehouse into the boxes? "marketing and sales". Those folks doing quality control, double-checking the box contents with the order before sealing the box? "marketing and sales". Those folks stacking the boxes onto the outbound shipping dock? "marketing and sales".

The UPS shipping bill? Oh yes, that's CGS (cost of goods sold).

This is awfully strange accounting. I wonder how Land's End catagorized their order fullfillment costs? "marketing and sales" seems mighty bizarre, since its not as if the cost to gather the merchandize for shipment and get the order "shipment ready" is going to go away for a "mail/internet order" company.
