Elwood: We were talking about "She" from the Yahoo thread today. Thought I would re-post her latest contribution to give this thread a flavour. For those who are not aware, she is from Houston and claims to know a lot of Compaq people from way back and currently. Her information has been very good so far, verging on "inside" stuff. Victor _____________________________ she_xlr8s (44/F/TX) ....... someone asked about the digital notebook...all digital notebooks were eliminated except the top of the line notebook. it is now sold under the cpq name & is called armada 7800 series. the only thing changed on it is the cpq name. token ring is LAN networking for pcs that is set up simular to a xmas tree light set with double twist type wiring allowing 72 devices to be connected to a multi access unit and if one goes out the rest still function. electro stated digital direct would be the way to go. not quite that would be too costly and too redundant in most areas to be feasible cpq is right in eliminating redundancy and going towards a more effiecient business plan. as a shareholder i don't want something on a silver platter i want the silver in my pocket. for anyone interested in comdex and e.p.'s key speaking engagement, you should check out ZDTV if you can get it. it will have all the comdex coverage starting at 4 pm. on monday. they also have a web site www.zdtv.com and you should be able to get updates and a link to broadcasts of the key speakers. intel is pushing box makers to build a new proto-type pc they came up with, will push it at comdex this year. if you want a good laugh check it out it's called the aztec, it's the worse looking pc i've ever encountered looks like something ron popeil and mattel dreamed up. i own quite a bit of intel and i sure hope this is not what r&d is spending money on. i hope everyone is using altavista for searches. check out the AVPhoto search, it's pretty sweet. the guy that ran altavista for digital quit when cpq took over, as he did not want to relocate to CA. so once new management takes over you can look for changes and some improvement to the site. i think we're seeing a lot of good changes already. i sense a little bit of tension between "classic compaq" and digital employees in the elimination of some of the company redundancies hopefully this will be ironed out shortly in the best interest of the companies future. well that's all for now.
