Intel No. 1 In Total 10/100 Ethernet Network Connections In Q3;
80 Percent Gain in Network Interface Card Sales Spurs Record Growth
BW - 03:17 p.m Nov 13, 1998 Eastern

HILLSBORO, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13,
1998--Intel Corporation (Nasdaq:INTC) is now the No.1
provider of 10/100 Ethernet network connections, according to a
Dell'Oro Group quarterly report released yesterday.

Strong sales in all segments, including network adapter cards,
LAN on Motherboard (LOM), network adapter silicon, and
foreign markets placed Intel into the No. 1 position in Q3, 1998.

The Dell'Oro Group is a research and consulting firm that
specializes in business planning and strategic competitive
analysis in the networking industry.

Dell'Oro Group's report shows a significant shift in overall
10/100 Ethernet connection market segment share between Intel
and 3Com Corp., its nearest competitor. Intel's total market
share was 45 percent for Q3, compared to 43 percent for 3Com.
Since Q1, 3Com's share of the 10/100 Ethernet connection
market has dropped 4 percent, while Intel's share has increased
20 percent.

The Dell'Oro report shows Intel's Q3 network adapter card sales
are up over 80 percent over Q2, 1998. Intel LOM sales also
recorded a 37 percent increase in sales from Q2 to Q3. Sales of
both branded and OEM Intel products recorded substantial
increases between Q2 and Q3. Intel attributes much of the OEM
growth to design wins at major PC OEMs, including Compaq,
IBM, Dell and Gateway. Intel currently sells network
connections to the top ten PC OEMs.

The new sales figures reflect the rapid industry acceptance of
Intel's new generation of managed adapters based on the 82558
Ethernet Controller, the industry's first single-chip 10/100
controller. The 82558 features optimized performance using
Adaptive Technology and Wired for Management (WfM)
capabilities on a single, highly integrated chip that yields
cost-effective designs for PC manufacturers.
