I like to buy leaps then write incremental cov-calls on them sometimes. Doesn't take too long to wittle down the basis to zero that way. But, you're right...with IFMX I also have 'normal' shares long as well.

I had very good luck buying leaps on KMart and TWA, for example...the leverage aspect giving me triples in a short time. Out of both of those now. The other benefit is, if the stock dies big time (like my Boeing and Fed Ex leaps did!), it limits the losses to just the price of the calls.
