I have win98 and want to run multiple monitors, but I also want to keep my voodoo2. I have AGP now, but I understand that only PCI cards will work.

1. Most any video card either, AGP or PCI, can be used as the primary video card in a multi-monitor configuration. The primary video card is determined by your BIOS at boot up. At present most BIOS configure your computer so a PCI card is the primary video card.

2. Only video cards, either AGP or PCI, with an appropriate driver can be used as a secondary video card in a multi-monitor configuration with Windows 98. I checked Microsoft's multi-monitor compatibility list and could not find the voodoo2 on the list. Hence it appears you can not use your AGP voodoo2 video card in a multi-monitor configuration if your BIOS configures your voodoo2 video card at boot up as a secondary display.

3. Therefore if you want to use your AGP voodoo2 video card in a multi-monitor configuration you need to:

Determine if your BIOS does or doesn't allow the user to specify which video card is the primary video card.

If it doesn't you may be able to upgrade your BIOS. Or in the worse case replace your motherboard with a motherboard that has a BIOS that lets the user specify which video card is the primary video card.

See support.microsoft.com
