It will probably be subsumed, but thats part of the cycle isn't it?

The positive thing is that outside of the realm of change-sensitive commercial environments, research on networking and protocols can be done on a scale not seen before. A lot of this research is underway on voice, video and QoS.

What will come of it? Who knows - but hopefully there will be plenty of investment opportunities.
