You're right about GDC's fate in this regard. At least as it relates to LU and the others here.
GDC, if this this holds true, is heavy into ATM abroad, but their role has been largely workhorse related, doing a lot of ATM T1 emulation stuff for the PTTs, still. They have begun using ATM for voice at the cell level as well, using a variant of VTOA, I believe, similar to what NT has proposed doing. Some see this as a possible future answer from the ATM camp to the VoIP "threat."
But they don't seem to want to enter the Internet b-b space in the same way that we've been discussing the other players. Content, I guess, to satisfy the needs of their long-established relationships within their PTT customer base. The PTTs of course, have been sleeping giants. Sooner or later, however, they'd better wake up, cuase there are a group of emerging intl carriers just chomping right now to eat their dessert. |
