this is great thread, interesting and informative.
maybe someone could help with a problem i have
getting a project computer to boot up.

I am assembling from hand me down components,
m/b, cpu, video card came together, HDD WD 1.6
was my old drive out of my presario, intact w/oem
windows 95 on drive. I added a FDD and installed
the components in a new case.

System fails to boot, i have tried to install with a new
win 98 boot disk, or the system disk from the presario.
i have gone through cmos/bios settings and checked
all connections and cables. All i get is BEEP and
"install system disk" or "hard disk failure.
?????

Thanks
