Mika,

Infra-red link for Ericsson phones to Palm Pilot, a smarter idea than combining both -don't you think (such as the pdQ)?

If you are looking at a wireless phone and Palm Pilot as 2 gadgets to store your mother-in-law's birthday, and then conveniently use the Palm Pilot to dial the phone that is in your other pocket to call her to wish her happy birthday, than yes, you could live with 2 devices, but I don't know how much smarter you would feel if you wanted to make a phone call, but you realized your Palm Pilot with the phone number in your other pocket was actually in the other pocket of your other suit that you are not wearing at the moment.

But if you look at pdQ as a platform for development of wireless applications for corporate world, rather that a toy, then having 2 separate devices is a very bad idea.

But if you really want to talk toys, just think about Walkman. It has AM/FM tuner, amplifier, tape player all in one. You could have 3 separate devices communicating over wireless infra-red "network", but it would not do the job.
