Toshiba and Kingston Announce Direct Rambus Manufacturing Partnership

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) and Kingston Technology Company today announced a manufacturing partnership for Direct Rambus memory products, including RIMM, SO-RIMM, and Continuity modules. Kingston Technology will provide Toshiba with global just-in-time manufacturing, testing and order fulfillment services to support Toshiba's OEM customers.

"Kingston's commitment to quality engineering, manufacturing, and testing is among the highest in the industry, and is the basis for our long-standing manufacturing relationship," said Stephen D. Marlow, vice president of business development, memory business unit at TAEC. "By working with Kingston to develop Direct Rambus modules, we are ensuring our ability to provide product to our customers with the performance and quality they have come to
expect from Toshiba."

Al Soni, vice president and general manager, Kingston Technology Services Division (KTSD), added, "We are pleased that Toshiba has chosen to extend the existing manufacturing relationship with Kingston Technology to provide KTSD's global services for volume production of Toshiba's Direct Rambus Modules in 1999. The Toshiba-Kingston manufacturing relationship goes back more than six years and continues to get stronger."

Kingston's Americas Manufacturing Center in Fountain Valley, California; Asia-Pacific Manufacturing Center in Hsinchu, Taiwan; and European Manufacturing Center in Dublin, Ireland will provide Toshiba with support for its Direct Rambus RIMM module program. Kingston's ability to manufacture, test, and ship memory products with 24-48 hours allows significant time savings for Toshiba, thereby resulting in more efficient support of OEM customers
worldwide.

Marlow concluded, "Toshiba's strong memory device engineering and manufacturing capability, when combined with Kingston's time-proven module design, manufacturing and testing capability, will power Toshiba to industry leadership in the Direct Rambus module market."
